“This section provides definitions for terms used in the Act.”
This section provides definitions for terms used in the Act. A person holding specified offices must give up that office when appointed as a member of the Commission. The Commission must have a Secretary (a public officer appointed in consultation with the Public Service Commission on terms set out in the appointment instrument); the Secretary has specified duties and may be removed only for listed grounds and must be informed and given opportunity to defend; the Commission may appoint other staff, second public officers, and engage consultants. The Commission may establish offices at appropriate administrative levels to help it perform its functions. The Commission must meet at least once every three months; the Chairperson must convene meetings, may call special meetings, and must convene a meeting within 14 days if at least three members request it in writing; notice is normally fourteen working days; quorum is three members; decisions by consensus or majority with chair's casting vote.
