Kashaija v Uganda (Criminal Appeal 194 of 2016) [2025] UGCA 146 (20 May 2025)
The Court of Appeal held that the trial judge failed to comply with the mandatory requirements of Rule 12 of the Judicature (Plea Bargain) Rules by not ensuring that the appellant was fully informed of the rights being waived and that the plea bargain agreement was properly explained and translated. However, the record showed that the agreement was translated to the appellant in Runyakole by his counsel.
