Ssekawoya v Uganda (Criminal Appeal 24 of 2014) [2018] UGSC 6 (9 April 2018)

The Supreme Court held that following the decision in Attorney General v. Susan Kigula & 417 others, the sentencing regime for murder changed, making life imprisonment the next most severe sentence after the death penalty. The trial Judge, sentencing the appellant after Kigula, intended life imprisonment to mean incarceration for the remainder of the appellant's natural life, not a fixed term of 20 years.
