Muyanja v Uganda (Criminal Appeal No.13 of 2015) [2015] UGHCCRD 72 (3 September 2015)

The High Court found that the Trial Magistrate acted within her powers under Section 197(1) of the Magistrates Court Act in awarding compensation to the complainant for the material loss suffered as a result of the appellant's theft. The compensation order of UGX 3,500,000 was deemed fair and reasonable, as it reflected the amount lost and was recoverable by civil suit.
