Otto v Uganda (Criminal Appeal 486 of 2015) [2024] UGCA 81 (8 April 2024)

The Court of Appeal found that the trial Judge committed serious procedural errors by failing to take a fresh plea from the appellant after a plea bargain agreement was reached, and by sentencing the appellant without a formal conviction or adherence to the agreed sentence. The Judge's endorsement of the plea bargain agreement did not substitute for the mandatory process of plea taking as required by law.
