The High Court found that the trial magistrate failed to properly evaluate the evidence, did not resolve material contradictions and inconsistencies in the prosecution case, and wrongly admitted and relied on an alleged oral confession without holding a trial-within-a-trial or ensuring its voluntariness and accuracy.
